Before there were screens, there was fire. The original Social Platform.

We’ve been gathering around flames for thousands of years—telling stories, sharing silence, passing time. It’s not just about heat. It’s about connection.

Want to keep the tradition alive? Here's the basics on how to build a fire:

1. Pick your spot – Clear an area away from trees, brush or buildings.

2. Gather materials – Tinder (bark, dry leaves), kindling (pencil-thick sticks), and fuel wood (dry logs).

3. Lay a base – Keep it off damp ground with bark or twigs.(Or in this case a very handy folding fire pit).

4. Build your shape – Use either a Teepee style or Crisscross 'log cabin' pattern to build up layers without restricting air flow.

5. Place tinder in the middle of this structure and light - Gently blow to help the flames catch.

6. Feed it slow – As your kindling lights add more small pieces until you have a stable flame then add larger wood bit by bit. Try not to smother the fire too early.

Safety first:

• Always check your local area to be sure you are permitted to light a fire.

• Never leave a fire unattended

• Keep water or dirt close to extinguish if needed

• Drown it completely when done - hot embers can relight and start wildfires.
